I assume that Ghost shares some code with the utility which is probably why it cannot access the drives.ДЄs you correctly observe, I have to chose between Linux and Ghost. With Disk Management discredited, I am inclined to believe the three major applications rather than Norton's little 'Partinfo.exe' utility. I really don't think that there is any problem with my partitioning. This is not too surprising since it doesn't claim to support the new ext4 file system used by Ubuntu. The only anamaly is that it shows the main Linux partition as unformatted. It shows exactly the same as the other two disk partitioning applications - just two primary partitions:

And the problem is a lot deeper than just Ghost not working, that was only the first clue of having a problem. It's your system and you can do what you want, but in my opinion your trying to address the symptom instead of the actual problem. How can a good image program restore an invalid partition table?

Now perhaps you could find a backup or image program that doesn't complain or even 'appears' to work, but could you possibly trust it? You got 4 programs and none of them can even agree what they really are, that makes them 'screwed up big time'. Now your saying that your other 2 programs see them differently than windows and Ghost. You can see how Ghost and Windows see them differently. Inside that extended partition you can create as many logical drives as you like because that information is held elsewhere, it's not in the partition table that defines the primaries. To get around that limit, a primary 'slot' can be replaced with an extended partition. Thats why there is a limit, if there was more room there wouldn't be a limit. The problem Ken is that in the partition table of a hard drive there is only enough room to define 4 primary partitions.
